Coaxial Cables - How many types of Coaxial Cables are there?

Coaxial Cables have many types such as RF Coaxial Cables – Feeder 7/8, 1/2, Coaxial Cables of RG 6, 59, 11, etc. How is each type of Cables used? Let’s read the details below to choose the right type of Cables.

In the previous article, we already mentioned about the detail structure of Coaxial Cables, if you haven’t read that article yet, you can read it here

Applications of Coaxial Cables:

RF Coaxial Cables – Feeder 7/8, 1/2

RF Feeder Coaxial Cables are used to transmit signal waves between antenna and BTS (Base Transceiver Station), the characteristic of Feeder is having copper which helps to resist interference and lose attenuation to make transmitted signal loss the least.

Coaxial Cables: RG 6, 59, 11

Brief Understanding about RG Coaxial Cables

Types of RG Coaxial Cables are:

RG -58- 50 ohm: Used for ThinEthernet Network

RG -59- 75 ohm: Used for Cable Televison

RG -62- 93 ohm: Used for ARCnet Network

The currently popular Coaxial Cable types are RG-59 and RG-6. Both of these two types are used almost in indoor environment, in cable television service, in the system of security and supervision. In which, RG-59 has the standard characteristic of Coaxial Cables.

Comparing between two above types of Cables, RG Cables have 6 bigger cores of central signal transmission, thinner insulating solvent layer, maybe from 2 to 4 primary Coatings, vice versa RG-59 only has only one. RG-59 is suitable to signal transmission under low frequency and in a near distance, while RG-6 is suitable to signal transmission under high frequency and in a far distance.

Primary coating of each type is also standardized according to applying scope of each type, which means that RG-59 is suitable to the applications having basic frequency range, short scope, and RG-6 is suitable to higher frequency range.

The relation between RF- Feeder Coaxial Cables and RG Coaxial Cables

In BTS system, transmission waves of antenna are transmitted over optical patch cord 1/2, then comes across Feeder 7/8, after that goes through Feeder ½ and connects to BTS between Feeder 7/8 and Feeder 1/2 which is connected through surge arrestor.

RG Coaxial Cables are used in viba transmission – internal transmission between broadcasting stations.

Transmission from antenna to BTS by using Feeder because Feeder Coaxial Cables are high capability of power transmission, because Electromagnetic wave propagation will centralize energy on the surface of the transmission cable, in which feeder is designed to be empty, both increasing the surface section and reducing both cost and weight.

For viba transmission with low energy but there needs reducing radically attenuation and interference resistance, and RG coaxial cables are designed with better anti-interference ability than feeders, lower attenuation, however, because RG coaxial cables have solid core, their price is higher.
