TECHNOLOGY OF SURGE PROTECTION DEVICE (SPD)

Direct lightning protection system does not protect electrical equipment inside the building: it requires providing a protection system for electrical equipment. When lightning strikes directly into the direct lightning protection system, 50% of the energy of the lightning current will enter the grounding system of the electrical equipment and this increase of voltage is very often beyond the heat resistance of types of conductors in different networks (main LV, telecommunications, cable videos, etc.). Moreover, the flow of lightning current through the conductor to the ground will cause the phenomenon of overvoltage (due to electromagnetic induction) for electrical equipment.

SPD: parallel connection with high impedance. The device contains at least one nonlinear component used to prevent over-voltage pulse when being struck by lightning in the system, sometimes over-voltage due to operation in the electrical system, over-voltage occurs due to switching operation of switchgear in electrical system.
